The Participa City project, supported by EU funding, is actively engaged in efforts to prevent racism and discrimination targeting ethnic and cultural minorities throughout Europe. Central to the project’s mission is the promotion of inclusion and meaningful participation of these minorities within European societies. By raising awareness among decision-makers and stakeholders, the project seeks to dismantle discriminatory structures and practices and foster environments that embrace diversity and equity.

Currently, Participa City is immersed in its crucial research phase, aiming to comprehensively understand the landscape of racism prevention across different European contexts. This research involves unpacking the complex challenges minorities face daily and identifying systemic barriers to their full participation.

To build this understanding, the project team is conducting in-depth interviews with experts specializing in anti-racism and inclusion. Complementing these qualitative insights, a wide-reaching public survey is underway to gather data on various critical aspects, including:

  • The groups that face the greatest impact from racism and discrimination,
  • The societal fields—such as education, employment, housing, and public services—where biases are most frequently encountered,
  • The key actors and stakeholders involved in prevention efforts,
  • The competence gaps that hinder effective anti-racism work, especially among adult educators and community leaders,
  • Practical and evidence-based recommendations on how to reduce discrimination and foster inclusive practices.

The insights gathered from this extensive research will directly influence the development of innovative training approaches and educational resources like the Participa City game. These tools are designed to empower individuals and organizations to recognize, challenge, and combat discrimination more effectively, advancing equality and social cohesion.

The project encourages all interested individuals and organizations to follow its progress and stay tuned for the upcoming results and outputs from the research phase. Through ongoing collaboration and shared knowledge, Participa City aspires to make a significant and lasting impact in the fight against racism across Europe.
