AIR Project Kicks Off in Palermo

Shaping the Future of Augmented and Immersive Learning in Higher Education

The AIR project – that’s Augmented and Immersive Reality in Higher Education, by the way – officially kicked off on 29–30 October 2025 at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-ITD) in Palermo, Italy.

Everyone was involved right from the start, sharing their knowledge and setting out a plan for creating a European model for Augmented and Immersive Reality (A&IR) in Higher Education.

The two-day meeting was all about getting the five work packages to be on the same page with their visions and responsibilities. So, partners from Italy, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, and Greece presented their contributions and discussed the project’s strategic direction. They covered everything from competence framework development (WP2) and blended course design (WP3) to the creation of the AIR Open Learning & Development Hub (WP4) and the valorisation strategy (WP5).

“What makes AIR so promising is how easy it is to use — A&IR technologies that can be used on everyday devices, enabling educators and students to work together to create innovative learning experiences.”

As the lead partner for WP4, blinc eG will be coordinating the design and implementation of the Open Learning and Development Hub, bringing together all digital, collaborative, and learning components into one open ecosystem.

“After working on ARIES, it’s exciting to carry on developing immersive learning environments for a wider, higher-education audience. The AIR Hub will be a central space for experimentation, professional growth, and knowledge sharing.”

The AIR partnership is going to carry on working on activities that are coming up, with a focus on making a competence framework and designing the first A&IR learning modules — getting things ready for a new generation of digital educators.
