DISC Project Course Concludes with Innovative SDG Solutions in Thessaloniki

The “Design Based Collaborative Research for Sustainable Development” (DISC) project recently concluded its intensive course in Thessaloniki, Greece, from April 14–17, 2025. Over 30 participants from Portugal, Serbia, Italy, Germany, and Greece collaborated to develop innovative solutions for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The course began with online research sessions where international teams identified and analyzed real-world challenges. This preparatory work set the stage for the in-person workshop, where participants used design thinking to transform their research into practical prototypes. The focus areas were SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Key Innovations from the Course:

  • A campaign to encourage healthier eating habits for university students.
  • An online game designed to combat social isolation among gamers.
  • A public awareness initiative using “fake scam” SMS messages to educate seniors about digital fraud.
  • A digital platform to improve integration and support for international students.
  • An AI-companion toy (“R2D2”) to encourage children’s engagement with nature.

These prototypes highlight the creativity and dedication of the DISC project participants. Their innovative work will soon be showcased on the official DISC website. We extend our thanks to all involved for their commitment to co-creating a sustainable future.
