The UNITE Project (2025–2027) marks the beginning of a new European collaboration focused on promoting the labour market inclusion of refugees from Ukraine. Through joint efforts across Sweden, Germany, Austria, and Poland, the project seeks to strengthen opportunities for sustainable employment and long-term social participation.

Empowering Refugees Through Inclusive Support Structures

UNITE aims to design and implement an effective support framework that facilitates both the professional and personal development of Ukrainian refugees. By combining mentoring, skills validation, and research-based methodologies, the project addresses the challenges refugees face when entering new labour markets.

The initiative builds upon successful experiences from a previous Swedish project, adapting its tested methods to new national contexts through a process of mutual learning and co-creation.

Key Objectives and Activities

Over the course of the project, UNITE will:

  • Transfer and adapt proven approaches for refugee integration to partner countries;
  • Create the UNITE Methodology Toolbox, providing practical instruments for professionals and mentors working with refugees;
  • Design and implement a mentor training programme to strengthen local support networks;
  • Involve refugees and stakeholders in co-developing approaches that respond to country-specific needs;
  • Pilot the methodology with approximately 20–30 participants per partner country; and
  • Combine academic and practical perspectives, drawing on research such as the Danish progression measurement model alongside EU competence validation practices.

Expected Results and Long-Term Impact

By the project’s completion, UNITE aims to achieve tangible outcomes that contribute to sustainable inclusion:

  • Stronger and more coordinated local support systems;
  • Improved access to employment and training opportunities for refugees;
  • Increased competence among mentors and professionals working in integration contexts; and
  • A replicable model that can inspire future initiatives across Europe.

Towards a More Inclusive Europe

UNITE embodies the shared European commitment to fair access to work, dignity, and opportunity for everyone. Through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based action, the project strives to create lasting change—ensuring that refugees can build stable, fulfilling lives within their new communities.
